About the Bible and Family Records Index

The Western Reserve Chapter of the DAR originally undertook the task of collecting, copying, indexing and binding into books important family records. Under their guidance seven volumes of Bible And Family Records At Western Reserve Historical Society were created between 1967 and 1987. In 2001 the Genealogical Committee, an auxiliary of the WRHS, picked up where the DAR left off and complete two additional volumes. All nine publications are now available in the Library's open shelves.

To further help the researcher, the Genealogical Committee created a master index of all nine publications. The master index contains over 35,000 entries and is now a searchable database on the Society's web site. This index will direct the researcher to the correct volume and page number.

Bible record preservation is an ongoing endeavor of the Genealogical Committee. We encourage people who are lucky enough to have a family bible to have the family pages copied at the WRHS Library [at no cost to them]. The information will be included in upcoming bound books for the Library and added to this valuable database.

You will find the volume number and the page on which the record is found in the Bible And Family Records At Western Reserve Historical Society by searching personal names in the form of "lastname, firstname". (Some entries will include middle names or initials.) The most effective way to find an individual is to search by the last name; if too many results come back, add a first name (or part of a first name) in the second search field.

The results will indicate the volume and page on which the record appeared. The volumes are available in the open stacks with call number F34ZF D238. Please note that the full text of the articles is not available online.
