What We Collect

The AAA is actively involved in collecting materials documenting the experiences of African Americans in Cleveland and Northeastern Ohio. The AAA solicits, acquires, organizes and occasionally exhibits various types of historic materials.

Research services for public access to the collections is available through the Library's reference division. The emphasis of the AAA is to collect historically significant materials written, owned, generated by, or related to African American people, living or deceased, from the 1700s to the present. Items collected by the AAA include the following:

 

Track legend, Jesse Owens, Clevelander and graduate of East Technical High School and The Ohio State University, and 1936 Berlin Olympic Games hero.
